This week’s edition is a bit of a grab bag, but I think that’s what I love most about these weekly lists. They become a snapshot of what’s occupying my mind at any given moment. This one happens to include surrealism, sculptural hardware, Mercury in retrograde, and a very good summer uniform.
Pull one thread, and the rest usually follows.
What I Bookmarked
They say hardware is the jewelry of the home, and in this case, it couldn’t be more accurate.
I have a soft spot for anything that blurs the line between functional object and sculpture, and this new hardware collection by Suna Bonometti for Petra does exactly that. Each piece is cast in New York’s Diamond District and feels as though it was pinched, twisted, and unfurled by hand.
If you’re going to spend every day opening the same drawer, it might as well make you smile.
Damn. The Quattro Petali knob is really speaking to me. I’d love to see it in a Celestia swathed room. Spiral on spiral.
What I Bought
For months, I hemmed and hawed over which silly little beaded bag I should buy. I finally settled on this one from Pura Utz, handmade in Guatemala.
It takes two women, three working days, and 24,400 glass beads to create just one of their beaded pouches. The craftsmanship alone is enough to make you stop and stare, and it feels incredible in your hands.
I justified the purchase by telling myself the palette was autumnal enough to carry me right into fall. Whether that’s true or not is beside the point. It’s already become my SLB (Silly Little Bag) of the summer.
Sadly, it’s already sold out. Maybe they’ll restock, but in the meantime, I found another beaded bag that scratches a very similar itch.
Where I Want to Go
You know I’ve gone full woo woo by now. I can’t stop talking about Mercury being in retrograde. I mean, how else do you explain Hot Knicks Summer being followed by Legionnaires’, explosive diarrhea, and apocalyptic skies?
So yes, I fully intend to visit the Morgan Library’s Tarot exhibition... and yes, I will absolutely be buying the accompanying book on my way out.
At this point, we might as well lean into fate. No?
What’s Inspiring Me
This image keeps popping up on my Instagram. Every time it does, I stop scrolling. I finally decided to look up the artist and discovered Belgian surrealist Marcel Mariën.
That sent me down a rabbit hole of his work, his writing, and finally, the Belgian surrealist movement more broadly. I love when that happens. One compelling image leads to an entire world you didn’t know existed five minutes earlier.
It’s a good reminder that one interesting thing almost always leads to another.
What I Wore
This week it was this poplin set from With Nothing Underneath. It’s been a sweltering 90 degrees and humid in NYC, and all I’ve wanted to wear are crisp, breathable fabrics.
I love that you can throw the pants over a swimsuit, pair them with a tee, or wear the top on its own as a tunic dress. It’s so simple, but somehow still feels special and chic, especially worn as a set. An easy summer uniform.
More threads next week,
Sarah
